The WoodSolutions Timber Made Awards celebrate excellence in the use of timber in buildings across Perth’s construction industry as the most versatile and sustainable building material.

Presented by Timber Insight, these awards recognise projects that showcase the best of timber design, sustainability, and innovation across residential and commercial sectors.

The Awards aim to:

  • Promote the use of timber as a leading structural and architectural material.
  • Recognise excellence in design, construction, and collaboration.
  • Celebrate innovation in sustainable and modern building practices.
  • Strengthen the local timber supply chain and support WA industry capability.

Award Categories

Renovation
Recognising the creative and effective use of timber in residential renovation or adaptive reuse projects.
Examples: timber extensions, conversions, or restorations of existing homes.

Detached Housing
Highlighting excellence in timber-framed detached homes that demonstrate design quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship.

Medium Density Housing
For multi-residential developments such as duplexes, triplexes, or small apartment buildings that integrate timber systems efficiently and effectively.

Unit Development
Recognising larger-scale residential developments (4+ units or apartment buildings) that utilise substantial timber construction and innovative delivery methods.

Commercial Building
For projects with a non-residential function, including office, retail, education, entertainment, or hospitality developments that demonstrate exemplary timber construction.

People’s Choice Award
Open to all finalists. The most popular project as voted by the public through online voting.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the WoodSolutions Timber Made Awards, a project must satisfy the following requirements:

Location
The project must be located within the Perth Metropolitan Region.

Completion Date
The project must have reached practical completion within the last 3 years prior to the official entry opening date.

Timber Use
Structural timber materials must comprise a minimum of 65% of the project’s structural system (e.g. solid timber, engineered timber, CLT, glulam, LVL, or timber framing).

Building Category
The project must fall within one of the official award categories:

  • Renovation
  • Detached Housing
  • Medium Density Housing
  • Unit Development
  • Commercial Building
  • People’s Choice (open to all finalists via public vote)


Entrant Eligibility
Entries are open to architects, builders, building designers, engineers, developers, and students working on built projects, either as individual or joint entrants.

Ownership & Attribution
If the design and construction were delivered by different organisations, both must be acknowledged. Entrants are responsible for ensuring that all project collaborators (architect, builder, engineer, fabricator, developer) are correctly credited in the submission.

Project Completion
The project must be fully completed, occupied, or operational at the time of entry (not under construction or a concept design).

Regulatory Compliance
The project must comply with all relevant local building codes and approvals, and must have received formal completion certification (or equivalent).

Photography
Each entry must include a minimum of five (5) high-resolution images showcasing key design and construction features.

  • Combined image file size must not exceed 50MB.
    Images should include both overall views and close-up details of timber applications.
  • By submitting, entrants confirm they have the rights and permissions for promotional use of these images by Timber Insight and partners.


Drawings & Documentation

Each entry must also include a PDF copy of key elevations or sections that clearly show the building’s timber structure.

  • The PDF must not exceed 10MB in total file size.
  • Additional supporting drawings (plans, details, or diagrams) may be included if relevant but are optional.


Site Access / Tour Participation

Support for a Timber Insight industry tour, site visit, or media feature is highly desirable and will be viewed favourably during judging.

Repeat Entries
Projects previously submitted to the Perth Timber Made Awards must disclose this at entry. Duplicate submissions may be disqualified or given reduced consideration.

Authorisation & Consent
The entrant must have authority from the project owner and design team to submit the project and to grant permission for images, project information, and outcomes to be used in Timber Insight promotional materials.

Judging Criteria

Each entry will be evaluated by a judging panel drawn from architecture, engineering, construction, and sustainability backgrounds as well as key figures from the timber and forestry sector, along with senior representatives from our key sponsors.

Projects will be assessed against the following weighted criteria:

Note: Additional merit may be awarded for:

  • Clarity, completeness, and visual quality of the submission
  • Data shared that supports a narrative of productivity improvements connected with innovations employed.

Recognition & Outcomes

  • All finalists will receive a complimentary ticket to the awards ceremony and discounted pricing for their guests.
  • Winners will receive a stunning, timber-based trophy.
  • Winners and finalists will be showcased across Timber Insight, WoodSolutions, sponsor and industry partner channels and platforms.
  • Selected projects may feature in case studies, media coverage, and industry tours.
  • All entrants will receive recognition for contributing to the advancement of sustainability and innovation in Perth’s timber construction industry.

      Entry Requirements

      Entrants must complete this online form, taking care to include:

      • Project summary (maximum 500 words) describing design intent, materials, and
        construction process.
      • High-quality photography (as per eligibility requirements).
      • PDF elevations and optional drawings showing key timber elements.
      • Details of key project contributors (builder, architect/designer, engineer, fabricator).
      • Statement on sustainability and innovation (max 200 words).
      • Consent and permissions for photography and project publicity.

      Judging Process

      • Stage 1 – Pre-screening (as entries come in)
        Entries reviewed for eligibility and completeness by Timber Insight panel.
      • Stage 2 – People’s Choice Voting
        All screened entries become available for public voting until 25th March 2026.
      • Stage 3 – Technical Assessment (1 st week after close)
        Judges independently assess entries against weighted criteria.
      • Stage 4 – Panel Review (2 nd week after close)
        Judges convene to discuss top entries, finalise shortlists and determine winners.
        Stage 5 – Awards Night Presentation
        Winners announced at the inaugural WoodSolutions Timber Made Awards Night, hosted by Timber Insight.
